Cooking up scholarship funds

The Bosque County Go Texan Barbecue Cookoff was held at the Bosque Bottoms in Meridian on June 7 and 8, in conjunction with the Meridian Chamber of Commerce Chiggerfest Barbecue Cookoff. Seventeen cookers took part.

Winner of the brisket-only cookoff was Meridian’s 74-year-old Marquita Bateman. She and her Red Hatters crew will represent Bosque County at the 2014 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Go Texan Barbecue Cook off to be held in February 2014.

By having a Barbeque Team representing Bosque County at the HLS&R Cookoff, a Bosque County High School Senior will receive a four-year $18,000 scholarship in 2014.

An additional prize is that the winning team’s entry fee for will be paid to the National Championship BBQ Cookoff to be held October 25-26 at the Bosque Bottoms in Meridian.
